Latest visit: Mar 2026 (Austin Bluffs)
First visit: Aug 2004 (Dallas - Tollway - closed)
My first experience with DoubleDave's goes back to when I had an office on the tollway in far north Dallas. I mainly worked from home, but at least once a week, I'd venture into the office which was a long drive from Keller. I remember absolutely nothing about that visit. That location is no longer functioning.
Some six plus years later, they had opened a shop nearby to our house. I'm positive I tried their buffet. I remember nothing else about it. That was an RJG era visit, but I guess I wasn't inspired enough to write anything. That store, however, remains open. I think they moved though.
And now 16 years later, and DoubleDave's has opened their first location in the state of Colorado. Mostly to a yawn. Never made the local news, at least my info feeds. I just happened to see it while driving past on Academy one day. I remember them, I exclaimed! Well, sort of.
For one, this DoubleDave's does not have a buffet. It's too small for that, but they most certainly need one. Even though it's a chain, I give them credit for making it look like a local place. They have the cutest little bar area. Four taps next to the cash register and two stools. Haha. I went for the soda fountain myself.
While they don't have a buffet, they do offer slice meal deals. They shouldn't offer that. They have no idea what they're doing. It was the most futzed out slice I've had in years. Look at that poor thing. So lifeless. There was no sauce. The bread seemed stale almost. Stiff as a board. They way overcooked it. The ingredients were bland with only the banana peppers offering the slightest of flavors. I had better pizza in the last vestiges of the Soviet Union. I walked out 50% full, after dropping $7. Maybe ordering a whole pie would result in a different experience. I have no intention of trying for that, but maybe it happens perchance.
Now I remember why I completely forgot about them. They are, indeed, forgettable. DoubleDave's is from Austin and almost all of their locations are in Texas. They have two in Oklahoma and this one in Colorado. It won't last.
