Zaap Kitchen ~ Irving, Texas

Zaap Kitchen has 7 other locations in DFW: Dallas (5); Plano (1); Fort Worth (1) Mr. Music and compadres ventured to Zaap Kitchen in Las Colinas. It is in a strip center on MacArthur and has a fancy fast food vibe. I was a little concerned. We ordered lots of food to share! Green Papaya Salad Lao style (more spicy, less sweet), Dancing Lao Riblets, Lao Sausage, Lao Fried Rice, Thai Fried Rice, and Thai Basil Stir Fry (pork). We really liked everything and ordered it all a heat level 5 of 5. I'd say the heat was weak. Fortunately they made us some fresh pik nam pla (Thai chili and fish sauce), which did the trick. The green papaya salad was yummy, tangy, crunchy, and had a little heat! The Lao sausage was plump and juicy loaded with herbal flavor. Both fried rice dishes had chicken, beef, pork, and shrimp. The flavor was great and I think we all preferred the Lao style by a little. The riblets had a nice flavor, a little sweet and they were small but tasty. The Thai Basil Stir Fry...

Burrito Jimmy ~ Irving, Texas

This is interesting. It looks like they reopened this location, but closed the others. It was one of our favorites so good news it seems. Reviews seem positive. Last visit: Oct 2015 First visit: Sep 2013 As I write this in July of 2015, Burrito Jimmy remains our favorite burrito place in DFW! We go often since the Las Colinas Beverages store mentioned below has become a regular destination for the RJG when he seeks new beers to try (also now closed). --- I was looking for a new place to stock up on craft beers, and noticed that Irving has a cool new store called Las Colinas Beverages . Since it's on the other side of the Great Divide, Mrs. RJG and I decided to make the area a lunch destination. After lunch, the plan was to drop her off at the TJ Maxx (apparently this location has far more stuff than the usual) and I would drive a few miles south on MacArthur to the beer store. Now we haven't been to Cavalli since last year, but I had remembered they were closed for lunch duri...

Pho Empire Noodle & Grill ~ Irving, Texas

Latest visit: Mar 2009 First visit: Mar 2006 Perhaps even more surprising than not having recent Thai updates, is the fact that I have yet to write about any Vietnamese restaurants. And the blog is nearly a year old. Surprising in the fact that when the wife and I were dating, Vietnamese food was the restaurant of choice. Not just any Vietnamese place, but namely Kim Ba, a wonderful little restaurant in eastern Denver near Aurora. This was Mrs. RJG's first food love. It got to the point that she wouldn't eat anywhere else during our courtship. We had to get married just so we could eat Italian food again. After we married, naturally we continued to frequent Kim Ba for the next few years before moving to NE Tarrant. We would still go almost weekly, even after we moved miles away to The Pinery, far southeast of Denver proper. So is Pho Empire the second coming of Kim Ba? Hardly, but that doesn't mean it's not good, because it is. We've also frequented a handful of...
